17-year-old Max Burgin broke the British Under-20 800m record and age-17 800m record as he led the automatic selections for the European U-20 and European Under-23 Championships trials in Bedford on Sunday, June 23. The European youth champion ran a massive personal best of 1:45.36 to cross the first place and book his ticket to the European Under-20 Championships in BorĂ¥s, Sweden next month. Burgin's 1:45.36 performance is British senior lead, the IAAF World Championships qualifying standard and is faster than the winning times at this year's Stockholm, Oslo & Rabat Diamond League meets.
