Women's 1000m Herculis Monaco Diamond League: Kenya's Faith Kipyegon almost broke the women's 1000m World record clockoing a very impressive 2:29.15 for the win. She missed Svetlana Masterkova's World record only 0.17 seconds. In the same race Laura Muir set a new British record with 2:30.82 while Ciara Mageean set a new Irish record with 2:31.06. The last time a women broke the 2:30 barrier in the 1000m was back in 1996 when Maria Mutola clocked 2:29.66 in a Golden League meet in Bruxelles.

The reigning World champion, Cheruiyot held off Jacob Ingebrigsten, the European champion, to clock a World lead of 3:28.45. Surprisingly, the 19-year-old Jacob broke Mo Farah's European record by finishing 2nd in a stunning 3:28.68. Scotland's Jake Wightman also produced a shock performance by setting a new personal best by more than five seconds to finish third with 3:29.47 and to move him up to second place in the British all-time lists.
