Olympic champion and World record holder in 400m (43.08) Wayde Van Niekerk of South Africa returned to track on Saturday at the Free State Championships. Van Niekerk clocked a modest 47.28 seconds to win the 400m race. The 26-year-old suffered freak knee injuries during a celebrity touch rugby match in Cape Town two years ago and his rehabilitation included time in the United States, Qatar and South Africa.
