17-year-old Max Burgin broke the British Under-20 800m record and age-17 800m record as he led the automatic selections for the European U-20 and European Under-23 Championships trials in Bedford on Sunday, June 23. The European youth champion ran a massive personal best of 1:45.36 to cross the first place and book his ticket to the European Under-20 Championships in Borås, Sweden next month. Burgin's 1:45.36 performance is British senior lead, the IAAF World Championships qualifying standard and is faster than the winning times at this year's Stockholm, Oslo & Rabat Diamond League meets.

Elaine Thompson successfully completed the Jamaican National Championships sprint double after she defeated training partner Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce to win the women’s 200m final on Sunday, June 24 in Kingston. The Rio Olympics Champion Thompson established a world-leading time of 22.00 seconds. On Friday, June 22 stormed to a world-leading time of 10.73 seconds to win the women’s 100m. Fraser-Pryce clocked the same 10.73 seconds for 2nd place.

Day 1 women's heptathlon high jump Decastar 2019 (Talence (FRA). Belgium's Olympic champion Nafissatou Thiam cleared 2.02m – a world heptathlon best. She cleared all of her heights – 1.93m, 1.96m, 1.99m and 2.02m – on the first attempt. She attempted 2.05m but failed on all three attempts. Thiam now sits second on the 2019 world list behind Maria Lasitskene. “I feel like I’m competing at home, I felt very good all through the contest. Actually, I didn’t expect to do so well for my first high jump contest of the year." Thiam said. Thiam is leading heptathlon after day one with 4133 points over Odile Ahouanwanou (3834) with Laura Ikauniece in third with 3792.
